AWS fixes SQL injection in its CDK Redshift module; check PUBLIC permissions after upgrading

Published in this issue:

Illustration · Image information

Facts

On 26 October 2026, AWS disclosed CVE-2026-115418 in the experimental @aws-cdk/aws-redshift-alpha module. If someone can influence usernames, comments or passwords in CDK construct properties, crafted content could alter SQL executed with Amazon Redshift superuser privileges during deployment. Versions before 2.274.0-alpha.0 are affected. AWS fixed the issue in 2.274.0 and recommends reviewing existing table permissions granted to PUBLIC after upgrading.

Analysis

Anti-Ransomware analysis: this is not a vulnerability that can generally be exploited directly over the internet; an attacker must be able to influence property values in the CDK application. However, compromised CI/CD, template inputs or secrets management could allow deployment privileges to amplify the impact. The advisory does not mean that any customer has been compromised.

Suggested Actions

  • Check repositories, lockfiles and build images for @aws-cdk/aws-redshift-alpha, and upgrade to 2.274.0 or later.
  • Accept relevant construct properties only from trusted developers or controlled configuration sources, and review secrets that CI/CD can read or modify.
  • After upgrading, review Redshift table grants to PUBLIC and recent deployment records, and remove unnecessary permissions.

Virtru and Pexip extend continuous access checks to confidential video meetings

Published in this issue:

Illustrative composite: two colleagues review access before a video meeting, with conferencing equipment on the table.
Illustration · Image information

Facts

On 26 October 2026, Virtru and Pexip announced a joint solution extending attribute-based access control to scheduling and joining confidential video meetings. According to the vendors, Pexip's policy enforcement point retrieves fresh policy decisions from the Virtru Data Security Platform when a meeting is created and when participants join, recording authorisation, participant verification, meeting attributes and timing information. The capability is intended for eligible defence, intelligence, federal civilian and allied organisations.

Analysis

Anti-Ransomware analysis: continuously rechecking participant eligibility can reduce the risk of static invitation links remaining usable after permissions change, while audit logs can support incident investigations. However, these are claims about a joint vendor solution. They do not replace identity provider hardening, MFA, least privilege, meeting endpoint protection or recording retention policies.

Suggested Actions

  • If you are in the intended user group, first confirm eligibility, deployment models, identity sources and supported meeting workflows.
  • In a test environment, validate actual behaviour when permissions are revoked, the identity provider is unavailable, the network is interrupted or the policy service fails.
  • Include meeting authorisation records in SIEM and retention policies, while restricting recording, download and external participant permissions.

Apple updates multiple operating systems and Safari on the same day: group enterprise devices by version

Published in this issue:

Illustrative composite: a shop owner checks a phone and tablet during routine device-security maintenance.
Illustration · Image information

Facts

Apple's security update list records releases on 26 October 2026 for iOS/iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS/iPadOS 18.7.11, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 and Safari 27.2, alongside corresponding watchOS, tvOS and visionOS updates. Applicable devices and security fixes differ by product. One version number cannot establish whether an entire device fleet is up to date.

Analysis

Anti-Ransomware analysis: when many platforms release updates on the same day, the most common problem is not failing to click Update, but leaving older models, test machines, shared Macs, browsers and mobile devices outside management coverage. These are general security patch notices. The list alone does not establish that a vulnerability has been exploited by ransomware.

Suggested Actions

  • Export Apple device, operating system and Safari versions from MDM/RMM and group them by hardware support. For devices unable to run the latest major version, also check for corresponding updates to older versions.
  • First test compatibility for critical applications, VPNs, EDR and certificate workflows, then set a clear deadline and list exceptions that remain unupdated.
  • After updating, verify the installed version and last connection time. Revoke access for long-offline or retired devices that can still sign in to business accounts.

Anthropic research review: AI supports cyberattacks while people set targets and review results

Published in this issue:

Original illustrative composite: colleagues review an incident timeline and system access; not an actual incident photograph.
Illustration · Image information

Facts

Anthropic's threat intelligence report, published on 10 September 2026, reviews misuse addressed between December 2025 and August 2026. The researchers say some operations used AI to coordinate reconnaissance, intrusion and data exfiltration, while people still set targets and reviewed stolen data. These are vendor observations of earlier activity, not attacks newly reported today or evidence that every step was autonomous.

Analysis

Anti-Ransomware analysis: Focus on account permissions, unusual connections and data flows. Access controls and useful investigation logs remain relevant when AI accelerates an attack.

Suggested Actions

  • Inventory AI tools and API keys with access to business data. Remove unused access and apply least privilege.
  • Alert on unusual sign-ins, bulk downloads and new outbound destinations, retaining logs for investigation.
  • Practise revoking accounts, rotating keys and isolating affected systems. Assign responsibility for responding to alerts.
